The value of amber
The value of amber is determined by many factors, including:
- the size of the stone,
- its proportions (thicker ones are usually more worth than flat ones),
- cohesion (ambers with a uniform internal structure are more valuable than the so-called plywood, i.e. layered ambers and from the so-called slag, i.e. contaminated amber),
- presence of inclusions (both their number, rarity, size and location in amber are important),
- the color and possible patterns are a very individual matter, but also affecting the valuation of amber,
- cut and its quality,
- finally, the type of binding is important: badly framed amber loses its value, and an interesting setting causes that we keep jewelery for future generations.
