The value of amber

The value of amber is determined by many factors, including:

  • the size of the stone,
  • its proportions (thicker ones are usually more worth than flat ones),
  • cohesion (ambers with a uniform internal structure are more valuable than the so-called plywood, i.e. layered ambers and from the so-called slag, i.e. contaminated amber),
  • presence of inclusions (both their number, rarity, size and location in amber are important),
  • the color and possible patterns are a very individual matter, but also affecting the valuation of amber,
  • cut and its quality,
  • finally, the type of binding is important: badly framed amber loses its value, and an interesting setting causes that we keep jewelery for future generations.
